Hello, Friend,
I love this poem by Mark Strand. I love the idea of ‘even this late.’ I love the idea that love and light come…even when we don’t expect it. That it might come by an invisible force. ‘Stars gather, dreams pour into your pillows…’
When we look for glimmers every day, we can notice and process and catch some of that magic. We don’t have to wait for it.
Tell me about your glimmer moments from this past week. From today since you’ve woken up. From your dreams. Write them out. Share them. Give them life.
In this particular December, many of us are experiencing an intense back and forth between grief and glimmers. We feel the chaos and pain of the world; we hold our own personal struggles and longings.
Both experiences are real. Light and dark are companions.
For today’s creative prompt, recall a moment when you were in that place of grief or sadness, and the glimmer that came was comfort. Something that helped you to remember ‘even this late.’ The possibility of light.
It’s the season for our great holiday classics–A Christmas Carol (The Muppets is my favorite version), It’s A Wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
In all of these stories, people experience profound transformation. Someone or something wakes them up.
We love these stories because we know in our bones how that feels. To see a new light.
Writing Practice: Set aside 5-7 minutes for this practice. Write in a journal or open a ‘Journey with The Season’ document where you can return each Sunday.
Prompt: Think about a moment from this past week (or earlier in your life) when someone or something (nature, an animal, a dream, a song) brought you comfort or helped you to shift your perspective. It doesn’t need to be big or dramatic—just a moment that helped you shift and see things differently.
Who was it? What did they say or do? How did your emotions and energy shift from this moment?
I’d love to read your expressions. Leave a comment here or email me your response at gabriellekm@gmail.com.
Deepening Practice: Keep a list of these moments for the week going forward. Notice who or what arrives to assist you–to bring you some light.
I loved reading your haikus about light! If you haven’t tried one yet, here’s the prompt to get you started.
The Winter Solstice arrives this week…the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. I’m eagerly preparing our writing circle for December 21st. Paid subscribers will receive a journal and a zoom link from me by email on the morning of the 21st. If you’re a free subscriber, you can upgrade your subscription or register here for this session.
Friends, I’m creating new themes and prompts to take us into 2024 and invite your ideas! I have a real quick feedback form (3 questions!) and would appreciate your response.
Folks who respond will be entered into a drawing for a creativity coaching session with me. Thank you!
Sending you love, light & many glimmers, Gabrielle Ariella
