Dear Friends,
Today’s message is about finding softness, compassion, tenderness embodied in the natural world. It’s about bringing that tenderness to your heart, offering yourself compassion.
It’s not a Mother’s Day message per se, but because it’s arriving to you on Mother’s Day, I am acknowledging the complexity of the day for many of us. I lost my Mom almost three years ago and she visits me in dreams sometimes now; we still have conversations to work through. My own journey as a mother has been more deep and complex and opening than anything I could have possibly imagined when I first considered becoming a parent.
My children are 20 and 17 now and when I look at photos of them as babies and young children, I think of all the lives we’ve lived together, our ongoing transformations. I’m offering that tenderness and compassion I mentioned to myself today, honoring the struggles and the joy that have all been part of my parenthood journey.

However you relate or don’t relate to Mother’s Day, it’s a great day to find a place—inside of you or in the landscape around you—of connection. Look for a beautiful thing. Feel spring being embodied in the breezes and the birds and just be with that.
When you’re ready to write, I have something new and different to honor the day, to bring some tenderness and compassion to all of us. I wrote this blessing a few days ago and would like to expand it with you. I hope you’ll comment or email me your responses and together we can continue to write this collective blessing for all of us here on the earth, our great mother.
Writing Practice: Set aside 5-7 minutes for this practice. Write in a journal or open a ‘Journey with The Season’ document where you can return each Sunday.
Here are the opening phrases of my blessing…write your own wishes and offerings for the second part and add your own ‘for anyone whos’.
For anyone who is grieving, may you…
For anyone who is struggling, may you…
For anyone who is yearning, may you…
For anyone who is celebrating, may you…
For anyone who is simply getting through the day, may you…
add your own
For anyone who is….
Deepening Practice:
Write a blessing, prayer, poem or simply fragment of words just for you—for whatever it is that you need today.
Send this post to a friend who might want to do the same today.
