Hey friends,
This week when I was traveling, I got to see a pomegranate growing on a bush for the first time in my entire life, that one there in the photo that I took to share with you.
It’s a few weeks away from Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and pomegranates are one of the holiday’s big symbols—representing fertility, wisdom and abundance. I love to eat pomegranates, to cut their flesh, stain my fingers with their red juice, crunch the seeds between my teeth. I felt grateful to witness firsthand how they grow.
When I saw the whole bush of them growing wildly and wonderful, I prayed for a new year full of wisdom and love, healing and growth for my family, for my community, for the world, for myself.
I’m grateful to have the tradition of the Jewish New Year in my roots. It encourages us to look within, to notice not only our blessings but the torn up parts of ourselves, that stuff that needs some nurturing, some repair as we enter another cycle around the sun. The New Year encourages us to take responsibility for what we need to repair with other humans—and also between ourselves and our Divine Connection.
That is what these creative prompts are all about: establishing that connection. Reaching deep, into the intuitive place. What I think of as the soul. Where creativity comes from. That connection to our inner wisdom and spirit. I don’t know where that creative energy comes from but I know that it’s there and that when I tune in, I find guidance. I am happy to share some of my practices with you.
So through the month of September, we’ll explore and write into Renewal. September is the month of back to school—even as adults, we can feel it as that time of expectations, imagining the year ahead. It’s a bridge month between summer and autumn. Transition. Feelings and memories stirring up.
So let’s tap into it all and get creative.
Writing Practice: Set aside 5-7 minutes for this practice. Write in a journal or open a ‘Journey with The Season’ document where you can return each Sunday.
Prompt: Write your wishes for the month of September, expressing all hopes, gratitude & desires. Write about the parts of yourself that need some nurturing. The components of your life that are ready for rebirth. Write everything that you wish for in the month ahead. Don’t edit yourself, write what comes! Place your September prayer/intentions somewhere you’ll see it as you start your day.
