Hello Friends, new & old, present & distracted, those of you feeling content & those of you who are yearning—
I’m glad you’re here. Welcome to all you new folks who found your way here this week. Welcome to the folks who have found a weekly ritual here over the last month, the last season, the last half year.
For each of you, I’m wondering: What kinds of experiences did you savor this week?
I had a number of moments that I completely enjoyed this past week—even though many were fleeting and I have some big concerns on my mind these days. Making my list of all that I savored a week ago helped me to realize that I can and do savor many experiences in any given day. I paid closer attention this week to what I was savoring and I noticed those moments growing exponentially as my focus shifted.
Here are a few examples:
When I start my day with my early walk, I slow my thoughts down by noticing what’s happening in the sky. That’s one practice of savoring and connection to all that feels bigger than myself.
A lot of the summer flowers that were bursting with life around me a few weeks ago are dying now. The air is cooler in the morning, I sense the end of summer. I’m savoring its beauty even as I know it’s going.
I had the chance to spend a day at the beach a week ago. Standing in the water, I imagined letting a lot of old energy and expectations of myself. I savored that ritual!
I am approaching savoring with more curiosity and have a lot of questions about it.
So I’m offering something a little different, a little fun, a little out there for this week’s self-expression prompt.
Imagine writing a ‘Q & A about Savoring.’
I’m going to share six questions. That seems like a good length for a Q & A. Pick one. Or pick them all. Write your answers and see what comes up, what you discover, what you learn about savoring and about yourself.
Writing Practice: Set aside 5-7 minutes for this practice. Write in a journal or open a ‘Journey with The Season’ document where you can return each Sunday.
Prompt: Answer any or all of these questions that pique your curiosity.
What kinds of moments/experiences did you savor this past week?
What is the value of savoring?
What stands in the way of your complete enjoyment of experiences?
What does savoring feel like in your body?
What do you want the world to know about savoring?
What would the world look like if everyone could experience complete enjoyment for a moment, at least once during the day?
I’d love to read your q & a! Leave a comment or email me your response at gabriellekm@gmail.com.
Deepening Practice: Add a calendar reminder for the week, a savoring check-in. Jot down in a journal a list of moments you’ve savored through the day. If it’s 5pm and you haven’t had a moment of enjoyment or pleasure yet, see if you can create one. Notice what it feels like to intentionally seek out moments to savor.
