Dear Friend,
I had a magical few days this past week, getting away for a work retreat with colleagues. Being away brought me fresh perspectives. I grieved some of the losses I’ve been feeling over the past few weeks.
I took a ‘cold plunge’ for the first time ever–stepping into this beautiful cold stream up to my knees. I dedicated the plunge to facing my fears and even my few steps into the water felt exhilarating.
My time away reminded me of the power of a creative practice–why I make time in my daily life to be in nature, to write, to dream. Even when I only have ten minutes here, ten minutes there. I remembered: When I carve out time in my daily life to get quiet and notice what’s happening in my inner world, my life is deeper and richer.
This month, our creative prompts have explored the dusk, that time of day between daylight and darkness. The time of softening, when we might feel both fear and excitement. We can imagine dusk as a metaphorical time– and remember that we may be able to see some things better in the dark.
Today’s prompt takes us through a short guided meditation. Listen at the arrow above–see might be calling you from the dusky hour, and write out what you experience with the prompt below.
Pouring our words on the page helps to us see what’s been waiting in the dark!
Writing Practice: Set aside 5-7 minutes for this practice. Write in a journal or open a ‘Journey with The Season’ document where you can return each Sunday. You can hear me guide you through today’s writing prompt at the arrow above.
Prompt: You’ll find the guided meditation at the arrow above. Take a listen. What images and visions came up for you during this meditation?
Write your hopes, wishes, secrets or prayers that you felt come alive there in the dusk–or that you notice coming alive in you now as you write.
If you struggled with the meditation, no worries. Sit with this question for a few minutes and then write: What hopes, prayers or wishes am I carrying inside that I haven’t shared with anyone or spoken out loud? Start writing and keep writing! Even if you write ‘I don’t know’ for a while, something else will come.
I would love to read your expressions. Feel free to comment below or use the messaging app to reach me.
Have a pal who might appreciate this meditation and prompt? Send it along!
Deepening Practice: Give yourself 5-10 minutes/day to sit with the prompt from today ‘What hopes, prayers or wishes am I carrying inside?’ and write what comes up. Notice how it feels to take time each day to sit and write.
I'm very excited to lead this creative approach to gratitude with Ritualwell tomorrow! Although we'll explore practices from Jewish tradition, everything relates to folks from all faiths and cultures, and especially those of us struggling with gratitude in this moment. Join me!
Wishing you a week of deep listening, love and dreams coming to life! Love, Gabrielle Ariella
